Make Brushing Fun for Kids

1. Music: One of the best ways to establish a connection with people is through music. You can use this technique to get your child to brush their teeth by playing electronic music or singing. Have your child brush to the beat instead of setting a timer.

2. Let your child pick their toothbrush/toothpaste: Allowing your child to be involved in simple decision-making, like picking their favorite color toothbrush, is wonderful to cultivate excitement.

3. Brush with your child: Kids normally feel motivated to do something when they see others doing it.

4. Be creative: Turn the brushing routine into a story time or a game. For example, explain that the toothbrush is the hero that removes the bad bacteria from the teeth.

5. Reward: If none of the suggestions above work, create a reward system. Find something your child enjoys and tell them that if they brush, they will be rewarded. Be true to your word so they will believe you if you use this tip again.

6. Get your child into the dental office at a young age: Starting early allows your child to become accustomed to visiting the dentist and developing a routine for caring for their oral health. The American Pediatric Association suggests taking your child to the dentist at age one.
